ERNEST BLOCH’UN 20. YÜZYIL MÜZİK REPERTUVARINA KAZANDIRDIĞI VİYOLONSEL ESERLERİ

ERNEST BLOCH’S CELLO WORKS IN THE REPERTOIRE OF 20TH CENTURY MUSIC

Abstract

Ernest Bloch was an important composer and educator who contributed to 20th century music with a large number of works in a wide variety of forms. He was a composer who succeeded in attracting attention because of his important qualities, such as the style he created without breaking his ties with his past and his Jewish identity, and his adaptation to the conditions of the time in which he lived. Ernest Bloch made a significant contribution to the cello repertoire of the 20th century, writing two characteristic works for cello and orchestra, two pieces for cello and piano, one in three movements, three suites for solo cello and a sonata. There are also cello transcriptions for Nigun, part of his Baal Shem Suite for violin and orchestra, and Symphony for Trombone. Unfortunately, the sonata in two movements that he composed in his youth has never been published. As the other two works were adapted from other instruments and the sonata was never published, these three works were excluded from the study. This study provides musical and technical information on Bloch's life, musical language and works for cello. The aim is to increase awareness of the composer's works with this information obtained from the literature review and, in the light of this information, to increase performance of the works by both professionals and students.

Öz

Ernest Bloch, 20. yüzyıl müziğine farklı birçok formda sayısı oldukça fazla eseri ile katkıda bulunmuş önemli bir besteci ve aynı zamanda da önemli bir eğitimcidir. Geçmişi ve Yahudi kimliğiyle bağlarını koparmadan yarattığı üslup ve yaşadığı dönemin koşullarına sağladığı uyum gibi önemli niteliklerinden dolayı dikkatleri üzerine çekmeyi başarmış bir bestecidir. Ernest Bloch viyolonsel ve orkestra için iki imza eser, bir tanesi üç bölümden oluşan viyolonsel ve piyano için iki parça, üç solo viyolonsel için yazılmış süit ve bir sonat besteleyerek, 20. Yüzyıl viyolonsel repertuvarına hatırı sayılır bir katkıda bulunmuştur. Ayrıca keman ve orkestra için bestelediği Baal Shem Suite başlıklı eserinin bir bölümü olan Nigun ve Symphony for Trombone eseri için de viyolonsel uyarlamaları bulunmaktadır. Gençlik yıllarında bestelediği iki bölümden oluşan sonatı ise hiç yayımlanmamıştır. Diğer iki eserinin başka enstrümanlardan uyarlanması ve sonatının da hiç yayımlanmamış olmasından dolayı bu üç eser çalışma dışında bırakılmıştır. Çalışmada Bloch’un yaşamı, müzik dili ve viyolonsel için bestelediği eserlerine dair yararlı olduğu düşünülen müzikal ve teknik bilgiler yer almaktadır. Literatür taraması yapılarak elde edilen bu bilgilerin bestecinin eserlerine yönelik farkındalığın artmasını sağlamak, yine bu bilgiler ışığında hem profesyoneller hem de öğrenciler tarafından daha çok icra edilmesi amaçlanmaktadır.
